MVHS Buffalos ace the Rawlins volleyball tournament

RAWLINS — Wyoming’s volleyball teams have completed three weeks of the 2022 high school volleyball season, and Lyman and Mountain View are still the front runners of the 3A for the most wins.

Mountain View won the tournament in Rawlins. Lyman also was on the court at this tournament, which was one of three statewide.

This week, Lyman hosted Rich County yesterday and plays the Lander Valley Tigers in Lander in a conference game today. Lander has a 4-10 record and Lyman a 12-1 record.

Mountain View also hosts the Pinedale Wranglers today at 6 p.m. The Wranglers enter the court with a 10-7 record. Mountain View has a 15-3-1 record.

The Buffalos will takes on Lander tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Lander. Both of the games for Mountain View are conference games.

Rankings for the SW Quad has Lyman at #1 with a 17-2-1 record. Mountain View’s record is 16-3-1. These are the standing through the games played on Sept. 10. Pinedale is third with a 12-7 record, and Lander is fourth with a 4-11-1 record.

At the Rawlins tournament, Mountain View cruised through their opponents to earn a crack at the championship game against Douglas on Saturday. Mountain View took this with scores of 21-8, 21-13. Games at this tournament were played in two sets.

The Buffalos started their march to this game on last Friday with their first game against Lovell taking the win over Lovell with the scores of 21-17, 21-18. Mountain View’s next game was against Torrington. Torrington was downed by the Buffalos with scores of 21-9, 21-12 In the game against Buffalo, each team won one set. Buffalo won with a score of 21-13, and Mountain View won with a score of 21-9.

Following these games on Friday, Mountain View was in the gold bracket on Saturday. The gold bracket included the top two teams from the four pools.

Mountain View’s first game was against Lander, with Mountain View winning both sets: 21-5, 21-13. Next, they faced Pinedale and took this game with 23-21, 21-14. This moved Mountain View into the championship match which they won.

As for the Lyman Eagles, they also played in the gold bracket on Saturday as they competed in the consolation match which they won in three sets over Moorcroft with scores of 21-14, 17-21, 15-8.

To get to this stage of the tournament, Lyman’s first game last Friday was against Powell. This proved to be a tie for Lyman with the scores of 21-17 for Powell and 21-9 for Lyman. Lyman’s next game was agains Wheatland and Lyman won both sets, 21-16, 21-17.

In the third game of the day, the Eagles went up against Glenrock, where they also took both sets, 21-3, 21-15. These games pushed the Eagles into the gold bracket.

Lyman’s first game on Saturday was against Lander. Lyman won both sets of this game: 21-11, 21-15. Their next game was against Moorcroft in the consolation match, which turned into three sets before the winner took the game. The scores for this game were 21-14, 17-21, 15-8, with Lyman taking the win.
