A Rocky Mount man accused of abducting his two sons from their mother in Nebraska and killing one of them in a car wreck was re-arrested Tuesday after skipping out on his bond and failing to appear in court.
According to court documents, 40-year-old Larry Lunnin failed to show up for a scheduled court hearing in Morgan County Tuesday. He had been released on $100,000 bond Sept. 13. The bond had been posted by Hilton Bail Bonding and was revoked when Lunnin failed to appear in court.
A non-compliance report submitted to the court indicates that the GPS monitor Lunnin was required to wear had been insufficiently charged and had been dead since the morning of Sept. 19. Defendants are responsible for making sure the devices are properly charged; failure to do so is a bond violation.
According to the Morgan County Sheriff's Department website, Lunnin had been re-arrested and was back in custody in the Morgan County Jail by 5:13 p.m. Tuesday.
Lunnin is up on several charges related to the abduction and death of his three-year-old son. The boy died in a crash Sept. 3 in Morgan County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Route W, south of Marvin Cutoff around 3:10 p.m. It occurred when Lunnin's 2014 Jeep Wrangler traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a sign, and overturned. Lunnin's three-year-old son was killed.
Lunnin's other son, who is seven years old, survived the crash.
According to the criminal complaint, Lunnin had "removed the child from the state of Nebraska without the consent of" the child's mother. The mother had been granted sole custody of her two children on March 7, and at the time of the crash, Lunnin had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear in court on the matter.
Lunnin is charged with Second-Degree Murder, Second-Degree Involuntary Manslaughter, two counts of Child Abduction, Failure to Drive on the Right Side of the Roadway, and two counts of Failure to Secure a Child Under Eight Years Old in a Child Restraint.
He has another bond hearing set for 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning in Morgan County Associate Circuit Court.
