Tribeca and Chanel Celebrated Women in Film With a Star-Studded Luncheon
On Tuesday afternoon, Chanel and Tribeca hosted a lovely luncheon at Locanda Verde to toast the start of the eighth annual three-day workshop, Through Her Lens. In collaboration with Pulse Films, the program empowers ten emerging female filmmakers through a series of master classes, mentorship, and $100,000 in funding for project development and production.
Co-hosted by Tribeca’s co-founder, Jane Rosenthal, and chief content officer, Paula Weinstein, the gathering brought together a hundred women leaders in the entertainment industry, from actors to directors to writers to costume designers. Chanel’s longstanding commitment to fostering new female creatives and talent in the film industry is deeply rooted in the fashion house’s DNA. In her time, founder and visionary, Gabrielle Chanel worked closely with leading filmmakers and actresses who often inspired her work on the runway and beyond. Today, the Through Her Lens program serves as a way to honor Chanel's legacy and pave a path for a brighter future for women in film.
Over the past two decades, the entertainment world has grown tremendously, but women still represent a small portion of the male-dominated space. “In 2021, only 12% of the top hundred most popular films at the box office were directed by women,” Rosenthal reported, “This is exactly why Tribeca and Chanel teamed up eight years ago and is why were are so grateful for Chanel’s commitment to Through Her Lens.”
Dressed in head-to-toe Chanel ensembles, notable guests including Katie Holmes, Dianna Agron, Zosia Mamet, Chase Sui Wonders, Minnie Mills, Christy Turlington, Chandler Kinney, Rebecca Dayan, Cazzie David, Myha'la Herrold, and Vogue’s Chloe Malle were eager to attend the lunch dedicated to recognizing the importance of women’s voices and supporting a rising generation of female filmmakers.
On the menu, a refreshing endive salad alongside a selection of colorful beets topped with feta cheese and pesto was served family style. For the main event, a delightful mushroom pasta and sliced filet mignon paired perfectly with the roasted rainbow carrots.
Before the first course was served, Rosenthal left the buzzy room with a few words of empowerment. “It’s time to share your voice, your stories, and your perspective with the industry and with the world,” Rosenthal exclaimed. “As you engage in this worthy fight, we are here to mentor you, empower you, champion you, and fight alongside you”
