Henrico, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - As part of their efforts to deal with teacher vacancies this year, Henrico County Public Schools are utilizing "virtual" teachers for some in-person classes. The District's Director of Middle School Education, Dr. Deia Champ, says parents in these classes are aware of the set-up, and are kept informed.
Champ says they have hired approximately five "virtual" teachers to teach approximately 23 classes. These classes are in schools around the county. There is a monitor in the classroom to make sure things stay on track.
Champ says the classes involved are mostly hard to staff classes in science, math, and foreign language. She says the virtual teachers will remain in the position for the entire school year. School districts around the country are facing teacher shortages this year.
