Justin Hartley is back on NBC for his first post-This Is Us TV role, appearing in an upcoming episode of the network’s Quantum Leap revival.
In a new promo unveiled after Quantum Leap‘s series premiere on Monday (read our post mortem here), Raymond Lee’s protagonist Ben leaps into the body of a young woman who’s receiving a marriage proposal from her boyfriend, played by Hartley. According to sources, Hartley’s character, Jake, is a bounty hunter who’s partnered — personally and professionally — with Eva (the person into which Ben has leapt).
“Babe, what do you say? Make it official?” Hartley’s character asks, ring box in hand — and Ben can’t quite wrap his head around the weirdness of the moment, especially when he looks in the mirror.
Hartley’s episode is slated to air in October and, fun fact: The outing also features a guest turn by Blood & Treasure‘s Sofia Pernas (aka Hartley’s real-life wife).
The promo also tees up new developments in Ben’s time-hopping journey, including the suggestion that he can leap into timeframes beyond his own lifetime; in one example, Ben finds himself transported to the Old West.
New episodes of Quantum Leap air Mondays at 10/9c on NBC. TVLine readers gave the Sept. 19 series debut an average grade of “B+.”
There was an episode in the original show where Sam goes all the way back to the Civil War era by leaping into the body of an ancestor.
Yeah, I’ll be interested to see if Ben leaps into an ancestor or just a random person in the Old West episode. I hope it’ll be the former since I’d like to see the rules of the original show carried through on this new version (even though the Waiting Room no longer seems to exist).
It would be interesting to be able to travel to different times and looking forward to the Hartley/Pernas episode.
This makes me miss Timeless so much though.
I wonder who will kiss 💋 Justin playing jake first in the upcoming a decent proposal episode, his real life current wife playing Eva or Ray playing ben who’s briefly inside her body?
So disappointed in this bland reboot. I’m done.
Nobody cares, but kthxbai!
You are not wrong. I’m still not sure how they could find the most bland 30 something for the “AL” role, when the rest of the cast is stellar. She’s just unwatchable and weighs the entire, dull pilot down so much I don’t know what would compel me to watch ep 2
I’m looking forward to the premiere of The Never Game series when he will portray Colter Shaw.
I loved the premiere! The rest of the season looks amazing. Count me in!!
The leaper doesn’t leap into their bodies. It’s not soul possession. They replace them but can only be seen and heard as the person whose life they leaped into. In the original Sam took the place of a blind man and of a double amputee, and he could see, and walk.
I’m waiting for Justin Hartley episode and see how Ben deals with being in the body of a woman romancing Justin’s character.
