Helendale resident Ryan Clay Bomgaars, 48, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to kill his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend by hitting him with his car, sheriff’s officials said.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to kill his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend by hitting him with his car just south of National Trails Highway in Helendale.

The Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station reported that at 11:14 a.m. on Saturday, deputies responded to a 911 call on Rodeo Road near Buckthorn Trail north of Victorville.

Deputies discovered that Helendale resident Ryan Clay Bomgaars went to his ex-girlfriend’s house, where an argument ensued. He then left the residence in his Ford F150 truck and headed north on Rodeo Road.

Bomgaars saw his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend, a 48-year-old man, driving towards him.

Bomgaars swerved into oncoming traffic in an attempt to hit the victim's vehicle head-on. The victim swerved off the roadway and quickly exited the vehicle.

Bomgaars reversed his truck, and collided with the victim and the victim’s vehicle before driving off and leaving the victim lying in the roadway with serious injuries, sheriff’s officials said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and his updated condition is unknown, according to sheriff’s officials.

A short time later, Bomgaars was located at a friend’s house where he was arrested. He is currently being held at High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, with bail set at $1 million.

Bomgaars is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Victorville Superior Court, booking records show.
