A concerned Meeker Elementary School parent is raising his concerns about safety at the school.
On Thursday, Bobby Pritchett's wife sent him a picture of the school's front door left propped open. She was at the school to pick up the couple's son early for a doctor's appointment.
Mr. Pritchett says in light of recent events, such as the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, Meeker Public Schools needs to take security more seriously.
He shared that, "This school, you just kind of walk in like a convenience store, and, you know, push into the office window, and, you know, ask for your kid."
Pritchett's wife did not wish to be named, but told Fox 25 that she was not asked to provide any identification as she was picking their son up either.
Mr. Pritchett added that, "I don't know why it's so lax. Due to certain... recent events... they need to do better."
According to him, the school he used to send his son to had better security protocols.
"This is our first year in Meeker. And the school we came from before, which was Wynnewood. Their schools were secure. They had you know, cameras, push buttons, and locked doors, you had to say who you are and why you're there before you got into the school," explained Pritchett.
He wants Meeker Public Schools to implement similar policies.
In response to Fox 25's request for comment on the matter, Meeker Public Schools Superintendent Jeff Pruitt shared the following statement:
I notified the principal to ensure that all exterior doors are to be secured on Thursday, September 15 at 4:08 PM. I responded back to the parent by email on Thursday, September 15 at 4:10 PM. The school district day ends at 3:20 PM. This problem was addressed and corrected before another school day was in session.
