There were five Central College athletics teams in action on Saturday.
The #12 ranked Central football team had it’s 19-game regular season win streak snapped in 38-35 upset victory by Loras College on a last second field goal. A mostly even match went against the Dutch men’s soccer team in a 2-0 loss to Viterbo University (Wis.).
A high-scoring offensive week for the Central women’s soccer team continued Saturday morning with a 3-0 home win over Cornell College. Competing on the par-72 Ironwood Golf Course, the Dutch women’s golf team shot a 308 on the first day of the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic, which is just three shots out of the lead. The Central volleyball team was on the wrong side of a pair of matches at a triangular hosted by the Illinois Institute of Technology Saturday, getting swept by Lake Forest College (Ill.) 25-23, 26-24, 25-20 and falling 25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20 against the hosts.
This weekend’s men’s tennis tournament at Cornell College for the Central College men’s tennis team was canceled due to rain and a limited number of indoor courts.
