‘Meet The Coaches’ Breakfast Deemed A Success

The Smith-Cotton High School Boys Basketball program hosted a “Meet The Coaches” breakfast at the Sedalia Country Club on Friday morning.

The idea behind the event was to gain awareness for the program and generate excitement for basketball in Sedalia.

Coach Ben Lyles said he was excited about the turnout, about 30 people.

“Couldn't have gone better,” Lyles said, noting the feedback, interaction and the support he saw. “This is the first of many, and next year's event, we will come back and talk about the successes, hopefully, from year one.”

The event featured S-C Alum and national championship coach Kim Anderson, as well as introduce Sedalia native Lyles as the new S-C head boys basketball coach. In addition, former district and conference championship coaches Willie Jenkins and Martin White also attended.

All offered stories of their time spent at S-C.

Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Gary Beckman served as master of ceremonies.

Coach Lyles took over the program in late May, and the first home game is Nov. 22 against the Jeff City Jays.

“I expect to compete and I expect the guys to go out and compete,” Lyles said.

The event was organized by Lyles' good friend Ethan Henson.
