Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Tropical Storm Fiona will hit the Leeward Islands and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands this weekend before heading to the Dominican Republic.

NBC 12 meteorologist Megan Wise says we may know what will happen with the storm, as it relates to U.S. landfall, after the weekend. A lot of the models suggest it will turn away from U.S. land, but that will be more clear in the next few days.

We could use tropical moisture as the area is in the "abnormally dry" category for drought. She says we are down 5 inches - year to date - for rainfall in the Richmond area, so it's been cumulative. Wise says it's been a long time since the area has gotten a soaking widespread rain. There are some areas that have had isolated rain, which has helped those areas.
