The body of an 18-year-old woman was found in a ravine on the side of the road Tuesday from what appeared to be injuries sustained from a bicycle accident, Yell County Sheriff Heath Tate announced Wednesday.
The sheriff's department said the body of Michelle Blankenship was found off the side of Peeler Gap Road after she was reported missing the day before by her father, Jeremy Blankenship.
Jeremy reported his daughter missing to the Ola Police Department on Monday shortly after 7:30 p.m. He stated she left on a bicycle in Ola with her sister to go meet a couple of boys.
Ola police checked a possible address for one of the boys and the Danville police checked the possible address of the other boys.
Tuesday afternoon, Yell County Chief Deputy Gary Morrison, Ola Police Chief Nick Gault, and Jeremy Blankenship met at the Ola Police Department to discuss what could be done in order to find her.
Later on that evening at 8:30 p.m. Chief Morrison made contact with the 15-year-old sister of Michelle, who was at an apartment in Ola. During the conversation between Michelle's sister and Chief Morrison, Chief Morrison contacted Danville Officer Steven Ramirez. Ramirez was able to get in contact with the two boys that were riding bikes with the sisters and at his request, they all met at the Peeler Gap Shooting range.
Tate then requested the help of the Yell County Mounted Patrol and the Yell County Office of Emergency Management and the plan was to look everywhere from the road ditch to the shooting range north towards Danville.
Within a short amount of time, Michelle Blankenship was found.
