Wichita jobless rate down in August

Preliminary estimates reported by the Kansas Department of and the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 2.5% in August. This was an increase from 2.4% in July and a decrease from 3.2% in August 2021. Seasonally adjusted job estimates for Kansas indicate total nonfarm payroll employment decreased by 34-hundred from July.

The Wichita area jobless rate stood at 3.5% in August, down from 3.8% in July and 4.4% in August last year. The Wichita area includes Sedgwick, Butler, Kingman, Harvey, and Sumner Counties.
