Todd and Julie Chrisley's Sentencing Date Postponed After Wild Revelation

Todd and Julie Chrisley's sentencing date has been postponed. The couple was convicted on all counts of fraud in a federal court in Georgia this summer — and face up to 30 years in prison, but the initial October 2022 sentencing date has been pushed back a month. "The Government does not object to this request," reads a new legal document obtained by PEOPLE, listing their former accountant Peter Tarantino as a defendant. "For good cause shown, the Court GRANTS this motion." Tarantino was also found guilty of conspiracy to defraud the United States and willfully filing false tax returns.

Court documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia's Atlanta Division reveal that the pair had filed a joint motion for a new trial through their lawyers. The motion alleged, "The government presented and failed to correct false testimony from IRS Revenue Officer Betty Carter, who lied about the Chrisleys owing taxes or years when she knew no taxes were due." Adding: "This testimony had the effect of falsely painting the Chrisleys as untruthful, likely to commit other forms of fraud, and evading the tax payments alleged in the indictment."

It also accused the court of accepting evidence that violated the reality star's Fourth Amendment rights "even though this evidence had been suppressed under this Court's prior rulings, without requiring the government to make any showing at all that the evidence should not be excluded." 

Fallout from the conviction continued this summer when Chrisley lost a major business deal. Tinley Beverage Company Inc. issued a press release in July noting that the company terminated Chrisley's role of brand ambassador for Beckett Spirits. He previously promoted the company's line of non-alcoholic spirits and cocktails as part of its "sober curious" movement.

Amid the family's legal woes, however, appears to be some reconciliation. Chrisley's daughter, Lindsie Chrisley, recently opened up about making up with her father after a years-long public family feud. She revealed on her podcast how they managed to mend fences.

"The most common question I think is people wanting to know if we reconnected because of the trial or because of my divorce... [but] I can confidently tell you there was no reconnection due to any legal reasons whatsoever," Lindsie shared on her podcast. "Nothing like that ever transpired." Chrisley fans were shocked to see Lindsie take the stand in defense of Todd and Julie during their trial after she had publicly spoken out against them as recently as last year, but Lindsie said it was her own marital problems that reconnected her with her dad.

After nine years of marriage to husband Will Campbell, the couple's marital issues finally proved to be too much, and the pair split in July 2021. It was a major factor in Lindsie's reconciling with her family, however. "After my divorce stuff had become public, my dad had posted, 'I'm here, I love you, whatever's going on in your life right now I see it.' That's really more so how we were able to reconnect," she revealed, noting that being able to finally put her differences with her father behind her was "definitely because of my divorce."
