The Wallace football team fell to 0-2 on the young season with a 8-20 loss to Garden County at home Friday.
Wallace Head Coach Eric Miller said hats off to Garden County.
“They came to Wallace and frustrated us. They were a physical team that played good team defense and blocked well,” Miller said.
After a scoreless first quarter, Garden County scored with 4:59 remaining in the first half and added a safely less than two minutes later to put Wallace in an 0-8 hole.
The Wildcats scored with eight minutes left in the third quarter on a 38-yard run by Carson Glunz. With Kyler Flaming’s extra point kick, the game was tied at 8-8.
It didn’t stay that way for long. Garden County scored less than a minute later, then added an insurance touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Miller said the Wildcats will need to get after it in practice to get ready for South Platte next week.
The Knights have lost to Southwest 6-60 and Wauneta-Palisade 32-66 and will be coming off a bye week when it hosts Wallace.
The win boosted Garden County into the Omaha World Herald’s six--man ratings at number 10. Also entering the ratings this week is district opponent Wauneta-Palisade (3-0) at number nine.
