Whoopi Goldberg is hitting back at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis after the conservative politician’s latest stunt. DeSantis — a frequent target on The View — is under fire this morning after sending two planes of migrants from Florida to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. While he’s received flack online, he also provoked plenty of ire around the Hot Topics table.

Goldberg introduced the topic and began by condemning DeSantis for “playing” with people for the sake of politics.

“I get they’re trying to make a point. But these are people you’re playing with,” she said. “These are real, live people with children, and older people, and we can work it out, but if you’re gonna be a bonehead, who wants to play with you?”

She added, “I don’t understand why you’ve gotta be nasty about it … We all know that it’s a problem. Let’s figure out what to do.”

After Sunny Hostin, the resident legal expert of the panel, pointed out, “Seeking asylum in the United States once you have reached our shores is legal. It is your right to do it when you get here,” Goldberg shared her own important reminder about the discrepancies in which migrants are and are not accepted in the U.S.

“Here’s what’s interesting: we don’t have any problem when people come through the border from Canada. We don’t have any problem when people overstay their time — people overstay their visas all the time,” Goldberg said.

She insisted, “I love Canadians, don’t get me wrong. Don’t get me wrong,” before continuing, “My point is, because it’s been made into a brown people issue, it’s a problem. We have not been as — we don’t take care of the Haitians that are trying to come here. We don’t take care of them.”

DeSantis sent about 50 people to Martha’s Vineyard Wednesday (Sept. 14) without informing “anyone” on the island, state Sen. Julian Cyr told CNN.

The Florida governor’s office said in a statement shared with CNN, “States like Massachusetts, New York, and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as ‘sanctuary states’ and support for the Biden Administration’s open border policies.”
