Illegal gambling operation uncovered at Jackpott’s of Sterling Heights

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Four people from Wayne and Macomb counties have been sentenced for running an illegal gambling operation inside an internet cafe in Sterling Heights, officials said.

State authorities said the gambling operation was set up at Jackpott’s of Sterling Heights on Lakeside Circle.

Charges

Sam Daoud, 52, of Sterling Heights; Nadia Daoud, 50, of Sterling Heights; Kim Green, 44, of Roseville; and Brian Shufeldt, 42, of Taylor; pleaded guilty to charges linked to the operation.

Sam Daoud pleaded guilty to felony gambling operations and was placed on probation for 18 months. He was also ordered to pay $300 in court costs, $130 in crime victim costs, and $68 in state costs.

Nadia Daoud pleaded guilty to felony gambling operations and was placed on probation for 11 months, with a $30 monthly supervision fee. She was ordered to pay $600 in court costs, $130 in crime victim costs, and $68 in state costs.

Shufeldt pleaded guilty to felony gambling operations and was ordered to pay $600 in court costs, $130 in crime victim costs, and $68 in state costs.

Green pleaded guilty to a high court misdemeanor of maintaining a gambling house for gain. She served two days in jail, received six months of probation and paid a $978 fine.

The state seized all gambling-related money and evidence, which included $14,212 in cash and gift cards and 35 slot-style gaming computers.

Genesee County gambling operation

Sam Daoud, Shufeldt, and three others pleaded guilty to gambling charges in Genesee County after officials uncovered another illegal operation at Motorcity Jackpott’s on West Vienna Road in Clio Township.

Andrew Reip, 54, and Christina Reip, 56, both of Clio Township, pleaded guilty July 18 to one count each of maintaining a gambling house for gain, which is a two-year misdemeanor.

They were sentenced Aug. 18 and received credit for one day in jail. They were ordered to pay fines of $550 in court costs, $130 in crime victim rights fees, and $68 in state fees.

Peter Yerian, 36, of Owosso, pleaded guilty Aug. 18 to one count of maintaining a gambling house for hire.

Yerian, Daoud, and Shufeldt are expected to be sentenced Oct. 4 in Genesee County.
