MECHANICSBURG - Cumberland Valley girls soccer has had a busy week to say the least.

And, after coming off of a battle against divisional rival CentraI Dauphin, which ended in a tie, nobody might have blamed the Eagles if they were dragging a bit Wednesday.

But, with a solid defensive effort and stifling offensive attack, CV (3-1-1) brought the energy in a statement, 3-0, win against Carlisle.

Sienna Manns, Anneli Hellgren and Kameron Rase each scored a goal for the Eagles.

“Tonight was a little bit slower because of our legs, after Central Dauphin, being dead,” Manns told PennLive. “But, I think we definitely still had heart, and gave it our all out there.”

It was a slow first thirty minutes, as both programs struggled to find the net. But, Hellgren was able to attack and sneak it in at 42:53 to put the Eagles up 1-0.

Then it was Manns’ turn.

The 5-foot-10 midfielder, who’s also a prospective college basketball player, was able to get up field and punch it in at 49:13 to extend the Eagles’ lead to 2-0.

The Herd continued to make an effort and claw back in this one but CV was able to shut down Carlisle’s attack with a goal at 69:44 from Kameron Rase, off of a Kate Collins, to go up 3-0 to finish the game.

THEY SAID IT

“We have great corner kickers, who can kick the ball pretty far. I usually like to start a little bit out and work my way in. And, then the ball slipped right in and I was right there!” - Sienna Manns on her offensive performance.

“We started out a little slow. But as the game progressed, we started connecting and playing as a team. We got a couple of balls in the car, and we went from there.” - Kameron Rase on her team’s performance.

“Anytime you win, you are going to be in a good mood. It was also important that we were getting after it. We played a hard game against Central Dauphin, and we wanted to have the opportunity to get after it, look sharp and look quick. So, I was happy we came out and worked hard on the little things in the second half.” - Cumberland Valley head coach George Gemberling on his team’s performance.
