MILAM COUNTY (Talk1370.com) -- Thorndale ISD officials said they're canceling classes Wednesday out of "an abundance of caution" after a social media threat was discovered.

A letter sent to district families from Thorndale ISD Superintendent Adam Ivy said the threat, which was discovered Tuesday evening, was sent to a student via Snapchat. That student reported it to their parents, who then reported it to district officials.

"We have been in contact with local and regional law enforcement that is assisting in trying to determine the identity of the person making the threats so that we can determine our safest course of action," Ivy said in the letter. "While we hope that the threatening comments turn out to be empty, we must take any threats seriously to ensure the safety of our students and staff."

Students will return to classes on Thursday, Ivy said.

A number of schools across the state saw increased security measures Tuesday, including Pflugerville ISD's Connally High School and Eanes ISD's Cedar Creek Elementary School. All of the threats were found to be not credible, officials said.
