(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Bohemian Crystal Restaurant has been a fixture in Westmont for 41 years.

“I like the roast pork and the dumplings with gravy,” said Barb Kosowski. “It’s not anything fancy, or anything like that, but it’s just good food.”

“The food is great, the people are nice,” said Bill Hammer. “They don’t open restaurants like this any more,” added his wife, Debbie.

Last week, the old-school European eatery announced it was closing its doors for good.

On Tuesday, loyal patrons flocked to the restaurant in hopes of enjoying one final meal.

“It was one of my mom and dad’s and our whole family’s favorite restaurant,” said Mike Albiniak. “It’s a shame, but I understand if the owners are ready to retire, they’re ready to retire.”

Westmont resident Jeff Drenth has been coming to the eatery his entire life. He tells WBBM Newsradio it’s a place where friends and family come together.

“Anniversaries, funeral events, everything has been here,” he said. “It’s very sad, this place is an icon.”

In a social media post, Bohemian Crystal thanked its customers for their long-term loyalty and friendship.

The restaurant’s last day will be Sunday Oct. 2.
