South Street festival on Oct. 1

There’s a new name and a new date, but the same party atmosphere can be expected along South Street for a new fall festival.

South Street Fest will take place on Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It takes the place of the South Street Headhouse District’s Spring Festival, which was forced to move from its normal time in the spring.

Festival goers can enjoy international food and drinks, handmade crafts, and iconic eclectic vendors, plus plenty of new experiences and festivities. Spanning South Street from 2nd to 8th Streets, the event promises to bring a day of unique eats, live music, local shopping and seasonal fall fun, while supporting local businesses.

The 3rd Street Gallery will be displaying artwork of all types, with family-friendly and hands-on art projects running throughout the day. Explore the area from 2nd and Lombard to 8th and South Street for an ever-changing festival experience, from Vietnamese hoagies at Banh Bi & Bottles to shredded beef and sweet plantain arepas at Puyero Venezuelan Flavor.

At the west end of the festival on the 700 Block of South Street, Brauhaus Schmitz will host its 14th Annual South Street Oktoberfest featuring live Oompah music, German dancers, a Liter Lift Competition, games, face painting, delicious schnapps and the very best German food and beer. Extended down 5th Street, Philly AIDS Thrift will be hosting its 17th Anniversary Block Party featuring music, games, food and drinks.
