The general election is rapidly approaching, and with less than two months left before Election Day, candidates for District 6 are getting with voters to see what matters most to them. District 6 covers most of Carroll and Boone counties and was formerly known as District 97 before redistricting earlier this year.
So all three candidates, Republican incumbent Harlan Breaux, Democrat Markeeta Tucker, and Independent Dakota Logan, will be talking with voters and sharing their policy positions at Gotahold Brewing in Eureka Springs at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12
Breaux is serving his second term and says his main goal is to lower taxes and his experience makes him the best for the seat.
“I’m running because I feel like I've done several things and that really make things better for my district." Says Breaux. "My state, and I can mention a few. I'm planning on doing more, and I've helped a lot of people, and that's what I really feel good about.”
Tucker and her family have been in Arkansas for decades, she is a fifth-generation Arkansan and worked 25 years in hospitality. She wants to bring recreational marijuana to the Natural State and believes her roots make her the best for representing the area.
“I do come from small farmers and small business owners. So and you know, I just want to see our farming come back and people be able to afford to take care of their families. We're not so sufficient anymore as a country, let alone as a state," stated Tucker.
Finally, Logan is a father of two and a mechanic, and he believes the main two parties don't represent a large amount of the population and wants to give Arkansans another choice.
“I am running to give people a third option to be represented in our state legislature, and the main qualification to be the representative is someone who is willing to listen and talk to everybody and represent the entire district," explained Logan.
The general election will be on Nov. 8, and the winner will represent the district for the next two years.
