Tennessee pilot found dead in Mammoth Cave after helicopter crash

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. (FOX 56) – Law enforcement from Mammoth Cave National Park received word of a helicopter crash on Monday that proved to be fatal.

A pilot from Louisville, Tn., 69-year-old David Stone, was flying from St. Louis to Knoxville on Saturday before contact with his helicopter had been lost.

The National Park Service confirmed in a news release that Stone was found dead at the scene after receiving notice around 10:30 a.m. on Monday of a potentially downed helicopter. The crashed helicopter was found later on Monday by a search helicopter.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the National Park Service and the National Traffic Safety Board.
