36-year-old woman falls over 60 feet at Cumberland Falls

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) – Whitley County officials received a call on Wednesday regarding an incident at Cumberland Falls State Park.

Calls came in on Wednesday about a 36-year-old woman who had gone over the edge of the waterfall at the state park.

Located in southeastern Kentucky, Whitley County Emergency Management confirmed that the fall at Cumberland Falls is around 68 feet high and 125 feet wide with water depths reaching up to 400 feet.

The woman was seen downstream swimming to a large rock and officials confirmed she refused treatment. She told officials she had dropped her phone in the river while taking pictures upstream and was swept downstream by a current when she tried to recover her phone.
