CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – There’s a new COVID vaccine available in the Blue Ridge Health District today. The new bivalent Pfizer and Moderna vaccines approved by the feds last week have arrived in the BRHD.  BRHD COVID-19 vaccination project manager Jen Fleisher, speaking from Mobi downtown where they’re administering the new vaccine, says it’s formulated to combat the B4 and B5 omicron variants we’re seeing most prominently right now. The formulation also combats the initial Wuhan strain.

Fleisher said on the first day, they’ve received some 3000 doses of Pfizer and 1000 of Moderna they’re distributing to local providers who’ve requested it.
She says the bivalent is being administered as a booster only.
Initial two-doses of vaccine are the original Moderna, Pfizer, or Novavax formulations.
