SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) –A mild day across Siouxland with calm conditions as breezy winds eased up. Highs have climbed into the low/mid 70s across the area this afternoon. Clouds have begun to filter back in though ahead of our next system that arrives late Thursday into Friday.

Remaining mild overnight as clouds continue to fill in and winds begin to turn breezy again, sustained between 10-15 mph. Lows fall into the upper 40s and low 50s.

Highs Thursday in advance of rain and storm potential rise into the upper 60s and low 70s with scattered sprinkles around. A better chance at rain and storms arrives by Thursday evening and into the overnight hours and early morning Friday with an initial batch of likely non-severe storms. Turning windy once again to wrap up the week both tomorrow and Friday with gusts 40-45 mph possible at times and southeasterly winds sustained between 15-25 mph.

Seeing those non-severe storms and heavy rain clear the area through the morning hours Friday and some dry time working back in before another round of rain and storms arrives through early/mid afternoon, from about 2 PM and on. This round, dependant on how quickly the morning round of showers and storms clears the area and how fast we get the atmosphere recharged/re-energized behind the morning round, will pose the potential of severe weather with much of Siouxland outlined in a Slight Risk (Category 2/5) for severe weather. Isolated to scattered severe storms are possible with all modes of severe weather possible, including gusts 60-70 mph, large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, and a few tornadoes. In addition to the severe threat, some localized flash flooding will also be possible with heavy rain looking increasingly likely with latest model runs indicating the potential for widespread 0.5-1″ rain totals through Friday night with some areas potentially seeing 1-2″ or even slightly higher totals.

Rain/storm chances on the decrease for Saturday but remaining mostly cloudy as Saturday looks to be the better of the two days of the weekend. Highs Saturday rise into the upper 60s.

More showers and storms look to arrive late Saturday and into Sunday with Sunday looking to be rather damp and cool with highs only into the low 60s and upper 50s.

A few showers linger into Monday morning before we see some clearing and become partly cloudy through the afternoon hours. Highs rise into the low 60s once again.

Next Tuesday looking to be the best day of the extended forecast with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid/upper 70s.

Clouds, showers, and a few storm chances return Wednesday night and wesee shower/storm chances potentially linger from midweek on as we open the month of May. Highs remaining mild though with highs in the low/mid 70s with a mix of sun and clouds in addition to those rain and storm chances.
