Future of Issa Rae’s ‘Rap Sh!t’ Season 2 Up in the Air

LOS ANGELES - OCT 14: Issa Rae arrives for the ELLE Women in Hollywood on October 14, 2019 in Westwood, CA

Issa Rae’s latest comedy series Rap Sh!t has officially come to an end…for now. The last of eight 30-minute episodes, starring Shawna (played by Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) chronicles the journey of the pair working to become Miami’s next hit female rap group.

The HBO Max series was full of twists, turns and laughter as the duo manifested “bad b*tch” energy on their quest to become the new rap stars of Hollywood.

Fans wonder whether the show will return for a second season, but the show’s creator, Rae, is confident it will return bigger and better than ever.

“I’m not worried,” Rae told Charlamgne The God on his Hell of a Week Comedy Central show. “We will see, but I’m not worried.”

The Insecure star received $12.6 million to film the series as part of California’s goal to create more jobs “by funding relocating series allocations,” Deadline reported in July. The show, originally shot in Miami, will now be filmed in California.

HBO has yet to confirm whether the show will be picked up for a second season, but if it does come back, its premiere will be closer to the summer of 2023, TV analysts predict. Another issue leaving the future of Rap Sh!t foggy is the recent Warner Bros. merger with Discovery. So, while there is no official announcement, the first season is available to stream on HBO Max.
