FLEMINGTON – The residential development boom in the county seat may be continuing.

An application has been filed with the borough's Planning Board to build 18 townhouses on a L-shaped lot off Route 12 on the border with Raritan Township.

Wertsville Road Properties, co-owned by Chad Barbieri of Ringoes and Steve Zamek of Hillsborough, is proposing to construct the townhouses in three buildings on a cul-de-sac that would have access to Route 12 next to the car wash. The cul-de-sac would then curve behind the properties directly on the highway.

The development would border a townhouse community on Clark Circle off South Main Street in Raritan Township.

Plans call for the two existing structures on the 2.4-acre property to be demolished.

The townhomes would be in three buildings. Plans say there would be nine two-bedroom units and nine three-bedroom units.

The borough ordinance requires 43 parking spaces, and the plans have 48 spaces in garages, driveways and a parking lot.

No date has been set for a hearing before the Planning Board.

The development is the latest in a number of projects either under construction or in the review process.

The biggest project is Courthouse Square which is under construction on Main Street. Besides a 100-room hotel behind a restored facade of the Union Hotel, the development will have 206 apartments and approximately 22,000 square feet of commercial space.

The borough has given final approval to build 100 apartments on the former Global Agway site on north Main Street.

The borough has also approved a redevelopment plan for the property across from the Global Agway site calling for 11 townhouses on North Main Street and 100 apartments, 4,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space with an outdoor terrace and 5,600 square feet of amenities with public access to a park.

The borough has also approved a redevelopment agreement for the Liberty Village outlet center opposite the Wertsville Road proposal on Route 12 calling for 150 for-sale townhomes and 225 rental apartments in five buildings.
