As high pressure strengthens over the metro area, Portland will see a short run of warm days and possibly some haze from area wildfires.

The National Weather Service says an elevated air flow coming from the south may bring smoke or haze from the Rum Creek fire north of Grants Pass up through the Willamette Valley. Haze is possible Monday and into Tuesday.

Despite any haze in the sky, Portland will have a sunny Monday with temperatures nearing 91 degrees.

Tuesday will be the hottest day of the week with many valley locations seeing temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s. Portland is likely to reach a high of about 97 degrees. Forecasting models are giving both Portland and Salem a 64% chance of temperatures of 95 or hotter. But this will likely only be a one-day event as cooling is expected by Tuesday evening.

Marine air will begin streaming into the valleys later Tuesday night and bring reduced temperatures to most locations on Wednesday. Under sunny skies, the metro area will reach a high of about 91 degrees.

Extended forecasts are showing another warm day Thursday with highs near 90, and then additional cooling Friday when a front begins approaching from the north.
