Police ID man killed in Downtown Austin shooting near East 6th & Sabine streets

Police have identified the man who was killed earlier this week in a shooting in Downtown Austin.

It happened Tuesday, August 16th, near the intersection of East 6th and Sabine streets, just west of I-35.
The Austin Police Department says officers responded to a report of a shooting at the location at around 11 a.m. When they arrived they found 36-year-old Chester Sauls lying on the ground, unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound.
He died at the scene.
APSD says the investigation is ongoing and a person of interest has been identified.
Anyone with more information or video of the incident is asked to call APD Homicide at 512-974-TIPS. This case is being investigated as Austin's 49th homicide of 2022, according to APD.
