BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge woman faces 90 months in federal prison for a drug trafficking operation in 2017.
In addition to the 90-month sentencing, Yascia N. LaFrance, 42, will be required to serve four years of supervised release after her release from prison, according to U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr. She was convicted of conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute heroin, cocaine, and cocaine base.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) said LaFrance had admitted to partnering with Travis James and working with others to buy kilograms of cocaine and heroin in Houston before bringing it to Baton Rouge for trafficking. Law enforcement investigators seized $280,310 hidden in the attic of LaFrance and James’ home in a search on June 13, 2017. More cash, totaling $179,000, was seized from James’ safe deposit box by investigators.
A total of 11 members involved in the drug trafficking case have been prosecuted and convicted, according to the DOJ.
