On August 19, at 1:37 a.m., an officer heard an engine revving while he was outside his vehicle and then he spotted a Dodge Charger driving fast near 960 Olive Street. The driver ran a red light and fled the area. The officer was able to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle near E. 13th and Patterson Street.

During the contact, officers learned the driver, Marcus Alann Johnson, age 22, of Eugene, had warrants and commanded him to come out the vehicle. He refused and began reaching around the vehicle. Officers feared Johnson had a weapon. The officer who stopped the vehicle was able to open the door just as Johnson tried to roll up the window and lock the door. A struggle ensued as officers attempted to get Johnson out of the vehicle. After they extracted him he continued to fight officers and pull away. During this, officers’ uniforms were torn, and hands and knees injured. After deployment of a taser, Johnson was taken into custody. An inventory search of the vehicle yielded a loaded ghost gun. Johnson was lodged at Lane County Jail on the warrant, as well as Resisting Arrest, Interfering, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
