The New York State Department of Transportation today advised motorists that beginning Monday, August 22, the westbound Southern State Parkway will be closed to traffic between Exit 32 (State Route 110) and Exit 27 (Wantagh State Parkway) in the Towns of Hempstead and Oyster Bay in Nassau County and the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County; on weeknights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Additionally, one westbound lane will be subject to closure beginning at 9 p.m. The closures are necessary to facilitate a pavement resurfacing project and are expected to last one month, weather permitting.

Motorists should follow a posted detour that starts at Exit 32S and utilizes southbound State Route 110, westbound State Route 27 (Sunrise Highway) and northbound Wantagh State Parkway for access to westbound Southern State Parkway.

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones.  Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
