Mary Alice Reporting –

A Uhrichsville man was arrested after fleeing the scene of a Thursday accident in Paint Township.

The Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the two-vehicle crash, shortly after 4pm, which occurred on State Route 241 in Wayne County.

Investigators determined that 32-year-old Charles Samples, of Tuscarawas County, was operating a 2011 Ford F350 and was southbound when he traveled left-of-center, striking 72-year-old Rand Luckner’s Hyundai Santa Fe head-on, causing it to slide off the road and overturn into a ditch. The Hartville man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner and his 73-year-old passenger was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Samples fled the scene but was in law enforcement custody at 6:22pm where he was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. OSP notes that the Uhrichsville man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and while the investigation continues, alcohol appears to be a factor in the deadly accident.
