ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTNH) — Emergency crews responded to a construction accident in Rocky Hill Friday morning where a man was impaled by equipment, police said.
Fire, police crews, and Aetna Ambulance responded to 153 Parsonage St. for a construction-related incident. At the scene, police said officers located a 45-year-old man suffering from an impalement to the leg.
Fire officials said the man was suffering from severe injuries after his leg was impaled by a fence post auger.
LifeStar, the Hartford Hospital Trauma Team, Yale New Haven SHARPS Team, and other medical responders were requested to the scene, as well as multiple construction-related companies with heavy-duty equipment.
Due to the severity of the injury and the inability to remove the construction auger, the man was transported via LifeStar to Hartford Hospital.
Police said the patient is expected to survive the incident and his identity will not be released at this time.
Rocky Hill police thanked all responding personnel who assisted in the incident, noting that a unified command was needed in order to successfully extricate and transport the patient.
Parsonage Street is closed between Silas Deane Highway and Bailey Road.
The Rocky Hill Police Department is investigating the incident in conjunction with OSHA, though police noted that it does not appear to be criminal in nature.
