Friday morning rain brings 0.55 moisture to Hays; still 5" below normal

The rain hit Hays this morning just as people were driving to work and school, but it was still welcome.

The official report from the K-State Agricultural Research Center, measured at 9 a.m., was 0.55 inch of rain, with light rain continuing off and on.

It remains dry in Hays. 

The 153 cumulative average of annual moisture by the end of August 17.57 inches. So far this year in Hays,  12.58 inches of moisture has fallen, 5 inches below normal.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, all of Ellis County (3 down, 5 right from map upper left) remains in a drought, ranging from moderate to extreme. 

The weekend weather forecast from the National Weather Service in Dodge City calls for slight chance of rain on Sunday.
