State Senator Lindsey Williams says she's trying to work with Governor Wolf on making free breakfast and lunch permanent - as the federal program providing them expires at the end of the summer.

She says if they can't work something out, she's preparing legislation.

“I think that’s just where we should be as a commonwealth, that every kid that comes to school gets a free, healthy breakfast and lunch, so they are fed and ready to learn.”

California and Maine have passed a universal free meal program.

Williams is concerned the rising cost of food will only be passed to students this year as some schools raise the cost of lunch.
