The woman sentenced in a 2018 Colquitt County school bus incident has died while in custody in Pulaski County.
According to Pulaski County Coroner Christopher Clark, 29-year-old Monica Cutts, an inmate at Pulaski State Prison, died Monday just after 4:30 p.m. Cutts said she was declared brain dead after being transported to a Macon hospital.
FOX 31 News reached out to the Georgia Department of Corrections to get more information regarding Cutts' death. They responded with:
The GDC can confirm the death of inmate Cutts as a suspected suicide. We are conducting an investigation into her death, as standard procedure, therefore no additional details are available for release.
Cutts, from Tallahassee, Florida, was in jail following a 2018 incident in which investigators say she ignored the stop arm of a school bus, hitting two boys as they were crossing the street. Ten-year-old Noah Palmer died. His 7-year-old brother, Dylan Wolfe, was also injured.
Clark says the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will complete an autopsy to determine Cutts' cause of death.
