One driver killed in Route 116 3-car crash in Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – One driver has died and two others are injured following a three-car crash Friday morning on Route 116 in Amherst.

Laurie Loisel of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office told 22News it was a deadly crash that occurred around 8:45 a.m. Friday. When officers arrived to the crash, one of the driver’s had died from the accident. Two other drivers involved in the accident were taken to Baystate Medical Center but are expected to be okay.

According to the Amherst police, Route 116 was closed from Meadow Street to the Sunderland town line. The road has since reopened as of 1 p.m.

The vehicles were towed from the road while a fire truck blocked off the area. One of the vehicles rolled over and was laying on its roof in the woods. The other two vehicles were in the middle of the road with significant damage to the front bumpers.

Amherst police and fire along with Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
