Family Friday Staff Feature: Gina Weathers

Gina Weathers has been a member of the HPU family for nearly 10 years. She is the assistant director of admissions for parent and alumni engagement, and connects parents of newly admitted students with parents of current and alumni HPU students.

How do you contribute to HPU’s mission to ensure every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people?

I enjoy connecting and working with current and alumni parents, who then engage with parents of admitted students. Our goal is to have parents mentor parents because they need support and encouragement, too! This intentional program is essential to ensure that every student and parent receives an extraordinary experience while going through the admissions process.

How do you help students develop life skills that they will use to achieve lives of success and significance after they graduate from HPU?

Through our University Ambassador Program, we expose, teach and develop our student team to employ every skillset they will need upon graduation. From interactions with peers, potential enrollees, families and staff, they are taught effective communication and how to provide exceptional customer service. We walk side-by-side with them to help them create healthy mindsets.

What are you looking forward to most for this academic year?

Engaging with wonderful parents of prospective, admitted, current and alumni students.

What’s one thing you want students and parents to know about HPU?

Not only do we care about each student; we care for each parent as well. Going to college can be a life-changing event for the whole family, and I have the phenomenal opportunity to help parents connect with one another. This is just another way that we at High Point University are fully committed to excellence in every way, every day.

What’s one way you generate creativity or productivity?

Taking walks on HPU’s beautiful Kester International Promenade and giving thanks to my inspiring environment.

What is your favorite quote?

“Don’t wait till tomorrow to be extraordinary today!”- Anonymous

What is your favorite place on campus?

My favorite place on campus is the Slane Student Center. I love the energy when I walk in. As a wise man (Dr. Don Scarborough) once said about working at HPU, “The students keep me young.” It’s so true. Just being in their space and around students keeps me young at heart. And it would not be Slane without seeing Ms. Vernell’s sweet smile as she continues to keep Slane at its best!

What do you love most about working at HPU?

Not only do I get to work with wonderful people — they are inspiring, too. I learn so much from my co-workers, especially my office roommate, Andy Brehm! I also would like to express appreciation to our security officers, who keep us safe year round, while being the first to greet, not only faculty, staff and students, but our prospective families, too! It’s officers like “Buck” McLemore, Jeffrey “JT” Thomas, Hellen Campbell, Joel Rodriguez, Austin Smith, Princess Williams, Von Lambeth, Tony Weeks, Jermaine Artis, Joe Williams, Marc Johnson, Christopher Spear, David Floyd, Ricardo Oliva-Dominquez, Nehemiah Sonner, Clive Moore and Valerie Baxter — just to name a few — who make you feel so special every day! I know in my heart they are all selfless individuals who make it a priority to do their very best every day. There’s truly no place like HPU!
