COLUMBIA, S.C. — As of 2 p.m. Friday, August 19, all lanes of I-77 southbound are open.

Motorists in the Charlotte/Fort Mill area were diverted early Friday morning as all southbound lanes of I-77 were blocked at mile marker 83 due to a multi-vehicle collision.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), the incident involved an overturned fuel tanker that needed to be pumped out into another tanker before it could be uprighted and moved. The pumping and removal process took several hours to complete.

Southbound traffic was being detoured.

SCHP had motorists take Exit 83 and turn left onto US -21, follow US-21 for about a mile back to I-77 putting you back on at the 82 mile marker.
