Over the last 10 years, a lot has changed on the Plains.
Auburn’s student population has steadily increased in the past decade. Total enrollment in 2012 was 25,134 students, according to the university. This spring, undergraduate and graduate enrollment was 31,526, a 25% increase.
Fall 2022 enrollment won’t be finalized for a few more weeks, but judging by interest in the university, officials expect numbers to be higher than last year’s.
They won’t call it a record quite yet, but Preston Sparks, a spokesman, said the amount of students that started class this week “is likely to be a record population for the institution.”
New students join a new university president, Chris Roberts. And in the past decade, the university has expanded classrooms, research facilities and athletic buildings. Workers currently are in the homestretch of a $92 million football facility.
Auburn received a record number of applicants for Fall 2022 -- more than 50,000 freshman and transfer applications — a record increase of more than 67% compared to the previous two fall semesters.
“It is exciting to see how many students are demonstrating a strong interest in joining the Auburn Family,” said Joffery Gaymon, Auburn’s vice president for enrollment. “As we focus on efforts of greater access to underserved areas, we are working hard to build connections and further grow our applicant numbers.”
