Warning: This report contains graphic details of alleged sexual and domestic violence that may be disturbing to some.
The details of the victim’s statement in the 2006 Syracuse arrest of Marcus Jackson are disturbing to read. As part of our ongoing coverage of Vera House hiring level two sex offender Marcus Jackson we examined the mission of Vera House. The organization with a decade’s long history of helping victims and survivors of sexual and domestic abuse states on its website: “We start be believing survivors”.
On Thursday, Vera House released a statement saying it was unaware of this 2006 case when the agency hired Jackson, claiming it did not come up in his background check and he did not disclose the information.
The survivor’s story in that case includes many graphic details. An adult male describing how Marcus Jackson ‘got made and assaulted’ him. How ‘Marcus pulled his pants and underwear down”. How the victim ‘did not want to be struck by Marcus anymore’ so he performed ‘oral sex’ as he was told.
The next day the victim went to police to report the incident, according to court documents. Other encounters describe how Jackson would allow this many to use his apartment to shower and get clean clothes.
The victim said, “I didn’t want to at all, but I did anyways because of the violence he showed and I didn’t want any more beatings, so I did.”
Jackson was arrested for sexual misconduct. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault. Jackson was sentenced to three years probation. He later served ten months in prison for violating probation.
Note: This report aired Wednesday evening prior to Vera House releasing its Thursday statement.
