Lohrer's Header Propels Soccer to First Win of Fox Era

BOX SCORE

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Chris Fox era of Morehead State soccer began on a high note Thursday as the Eagles defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas 1-0 in full time. Thursday's win marks the second year in a row that the Morehead State soccer team has won its home opener, after not winning a home opener since 2016.

After a first half that featured only two shots on goal that were both saved by Michelle Jerantowski, Morehead State ramped up its attack early on in the second half, resulting in a corner kick in the 55th minute. Hadley Cytron sent in a beautiful ball from the corner that Anna Lohrer headed in for the lead and her first collegiate goal.

"It was really great. We knew coming into the second half that we wanted to get a goal early. We had chances in the first half we weren't able to put away so I was really excited to get one for the team. I've been trying to get a header off a corner for two years now so I'm happy to get my first one," said Lohrer, whose goal ended as the lone tally in the win.

Madelyn Mozeleski was everywhere defensively for the Eagles on Thursday, stopping numerous CMU chances before they reached Jerantowski, who posted her seventh shutout as an Eagle. Kate Larbes controlled the midfield all afternoon, allowing the Eagles to keep possession for the majority of the match.

"Absolutely awesome," Larbes said on the win, "I could not do it without the girls around me. Every player that stepped on the field, every player that was on the bench, every substitute did their job individually. I think in the second half we came out with a better mentality and Anna was able to put one in the back."

Shots were even at 10 a piece, with CMU holding a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. The Eagles only put two shots on goal of their 10 shots, but Lohrer's header proved to be enough to move MSU to 1-0.

The Eagles return to the pitch on Sunday at home vs. James Madison at 1 p.m. ET.
