PHOENIX — Thursday started one of the strongest local weather systems of the season as rain pounded and residents around the Valley were left without power.

Starting Thursday and lasting through Monday, some areas in Phoenix could see up to 3 inches of rain.

The rain started around 4 p.m. in the north as New River received 1.57 inches while Camp Creek saw 2.36 inches, according to the Maricopa County Flood Control rain gauges.

Glendale and rest of the west Valley received rain around 5 p.m. with .83 inches being recorded.

The east Valley saw .39 inches fall in Apache Junction, .63 in Fountain Hills and .2 in Queen Creek.

SRP power outage maps saw 4,700 people lose power in Glendale and Peoria, over 100 in Scottsdale and over 100 in Chandler and Gilbert.

Flash flood and thunderstorm warnings are in effect all throughout the night for Maricopa County, according to NWS Phoenix.

The storm is supposed to continue all throughout the weekend, with Friday and Saturday seeing the worst of the rain.

“Our moisture levels are going to gradually increase through the early part of the weekend and we’re going to see the impact of the low-pressure system to our south,” James Satwelle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.
