Michigan’s largest free festival celebrating 120 years with music, food and rides

LAPEER, MI – Michigan’s largest free festival returns for its 120th year this weekend.

The Lapeer Days festival will feature an arts and craft show, helicopter rides, a talent showcase, and many more activities for the family.

The three-day event runs from Friday, Aug. 19 to Sunday, Aug. 21 along Nepessing Street in the city’s downtown area. Entrance is free of charge.

The event’s first day kicks off at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19. The Lapeer Days Festival Opening Ceremonies will take place at noon. The Jason Charles Band, Lanco, and Kali Indiana & KC Cameron are set to perform during the evening on the main stage.

A second day of events kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. The Lapeer Days Festival Parade begins at 11 a.m. on the east end of Nepessing Street. The theme for the parade is Celebrating 120 Years!

Miss Lapeer Days Tea Party will immediately follow the parade.

Soul Asylum, Kougaran, and Teddy Petty and the Refugees will perform on the main stage Saturday evening.

Sunday, Aug. 21, marks the third and final day of Lapeer Days. The morning’s events will begin at 9 a.m. with the annual All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast.

The 36th Annual John Monteleone Memorial Classic Car Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Faith Christian Family Church praise and worship service will take the main stage from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The Lapeer Days festival will conclude with the Lapeer Days Talent Showcase finals taking place on the main stage from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Carnival rides run each day in the parking lot behind Choice One Bank, from noon to midnight Friday and Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Friday, Aug. 19

-Public Safety Zone (City of Lapeer Police, Lapeer City Fire & Rescue and Lapeer County EMS. Kids can take pictures with Andy the ambulance and Sparky the Fire Dog), east end of Nepessing Street, during festival hours

-Michigan National Guard Humvee display, Nepessing and Pine streets, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

-Arts & Crafts, Anrook Park along the river, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

-Helicopter rides ($40 per person, 2 person minimum per flight), East Anrook Park, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

-Inflatables on the courthouse lawn, 11 a.m.-dusk

-Lapeer Days Festival Opening Ceremonies, noon

-Giant Sandbox, Court Street, noon-6 p.m.

-Lapeer Days Dunk Tank, Court Street, noon-8 p.m.

-Tina’s Party Ponies, Clay Street, noon-dusk

-Optimist Beer Tent, next to Rogers Pharmacy, noon-midnight

-Carnival rides, parking lot behind Choice One Bank, noon-midnight

-Free face painting and balloon art, courthouse lawn, 1-4 p.m.

Free parking is available all weekend in downtown Lapeer. Auxiliary parking with a free shuttle will be available at Lapeer High School, 933 S. Saginaw St., from 5-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday.

Shuttle pick-up will take place every 20 minutes, with drop-off at the corner of Saginaw and Nepessing streets.

A Lapeer County EMS station will be located at the east end of Nepessing Street in the Public Safety Zone during festival hours.
