More than $76 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster aid for Hurricanes Ida and Laura has been approved this week, including more than $3 million for the Calcasieu Parish School Board.

U.S. Congressman Clay Higgins, R-Louisiana, said the board will receive $2,258,321 in federal funding for repairs to the Iowa High School campus and $1,199,460 for LaGrange High School.

Higgins said much of his work to advance recovery projects occurs behind the scenes.

“Funding finalization and the associated formal announcement of funding are the result of constant efforts over many months with FEMA and state and local stakeholders,” he said in an email to the American Press.  “All funding will be delivered to the state of Louisiana. The state is responsible for disbursing the funds to each sub-recipient.”

Higgins said to date, more than $3.5 billion in disaster relief for Hurricanes Laura and Delta has been delivered to the state.

“My office continues to work closely with FEMA and our state and local partners to facilitate the processing and distribution of recovery funding,” Higgins said. “These reimbursements will provide the Calcasieu Parish School Board with much-needed support in their recovery processes. We will not stop working for Southwest Louisiana.”
