Officer hospitalized, man arrested after SWAT situation in Beaver County

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — A police officer was hospitalized and a man was arrested after a SWAT situation in Beaver County.

The standoff began in the area of Ninth Street and Melrose Avenue in Ambridge at around 3 p.m.

Ambridge police said they were contacted by Beaver County detectives to assist them with trying to find Austin Reefer, who was wanted by police.

Beaver County Emergency Services Unit was called in, and after a brief standoff, Reefer was taken into custody.

When officers arrived and surrounded the home, they saw Reefer trying to run out the back door. He then ran back inside when he noticed officers and refused to come out.

Police said that during the incident, a Beaver County ESU officer received a laceration on the arm and was taken to a hospital.

“I would like to thank all agencies that responded to this incident for a job well done,” Ambridge Police Chief John DeLuca said in a Facebook post.
