Some parts of North Texas received more than half an inch of rain in storms Wednesday, but the severe weather also caused damage in Hood County. In Tolar, heavy rain and strong winds damaged some buildings and knocked down trees and power lines.

The Hood County sheriff says downed trees shut down part of Highway 377 Wednesday night. Sheriff Roger Deeds says Oncor was working to restore power. Thursday afternoon, no power outages remained in Tolar or Granbury.

Deeds says the Tolar and Granbury Volunteer Fire Departments worked to clear roads.

Tolar ISD delayed the start of school by two hours Thursday. The district said no schools had received major damage, but the delay would allow for power restoration and administrators to check campuses for any problems.

The National Weather Services says Granbury Municipal Airport received about a quarter inch of rain Wednesday. DFW Airport received about half an inch of rain.

The U.S. Drought Monitor updated maps Thursday, showing 97.21% of the state is drier than usual. The maps included data through Tuesday.

The Drought Monitor says 26.5% of the state is in "exceptional drought," the most extreme category, compared to 29.1% last week.
