“I’d like to apologize to the community for the decisions of one of our officers that wasn't consistent of our core values, nor that of a professional law enforcement agency,” Robby Rummage, Lexington chief of police said.
“I hate this for the profession, for the men and women that wear badges every single day. This is not representative of the many, many decisions that are made by officers and deputies day in and day out,” he said.
Davidson County Sheriff Richie Simmons also spoke about the incident while conducting the joint investigation.
“We know that there’s a very small percentage that officers do go bad but when they do, it’s for sure that one thing is in common is that good officers won’t tolerate with bad officers. We will police our own and is in fact what we did today,” Simmons said.
Rummage originally released a statement early Thursday morning following the arrest.
"The fact that an investigation into one of our officers reveals evidence of a criminal act and a substantial breach of the Lexington Police Department core values is extremely disappointing.
"At this point, it is the responsibility of the courts to determine if that level of evidence is
sufficient to prove guilt. Felicia Biddix is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
The sheriff’s office said they’re still investigating.
