On Monday, March 8th, 2021, shots rang out in a Troy neighborhood.
Jona Rivera says her 12-year-old son MJ was doing chores inside their home on O’Neil Street, when he was struck in the back by a bullet.
A shots-fired call came in at about 3:45 p.m. on O'Neil Street, in the View Heights neighborhood. Arriving officers found the 12-year-old male victim, who had been struck in the back by gunfire. The Troy Fire Department gave aid to the victim at the scene, and transported him to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
On August 18, 18-year-old Christopher George faced a judge. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the shooting.
The judge denied youthful offender status, and also sentenced him to 3 years to be run consecutively on an unrelated attempted robbery charge.
